Billy Cobham live remaster

Hi guys. i worked this piece for something to do.as you will hear, the source was pretty flat. so this was an exercise in inflation

.the source is tape damaged. it wanders slightly here and there, and it sounds very saturated in certain freq areas. some are almost missing. but i think i breathed some life back into it. dont bother telling me it needs de noising

the tracks are now on soundcloud, so no buggering about with divshare nonsense (i’m slowly getting things sorted)

Hi. thanks for stopping by. My names Tony a.k.a Pure-Tone.

Mastering engineers can be renowned for being unapproachable, sometimes arrogant and slightly secretive. This can be due to a few things…spending too much time with computers, disappearing farther into audio than is healthy for a person, and possibly a feeling of elitism. Well you can forget all of that with me!. I may spend the day with working with computers, but I have no intention of becoming one. If you want to chat about audio/ask questions etc, come find me on Twitter . If I’m not working on audio, I want to be talking/writing about it.

So whats this blog all about?? . mainly Mastering and general audio etc, but its also about the road that brought me to where i am now. hopefully, some of the readers will take away a few positive points to help them make the most of their own potential.

took to learning guitar at about 13.became a reasonable player, including some good lead work. first guitar was a strat….only a squier, but one of the early ones with staggered alnico pickups etc…..i digress , but even at that age people would comment on my sound. i was never the most technical player, sure i could do some fancy sweeping (no..not with a broom ) but my sound was always my best attribute.

Early recording endeavours

Dad owned a small local studio. 16 track 2 inch tape multitrack and a huge soundcraft desk, neither of which were in great working order. Revox 1/4 inch open reel, a few good mics, including u87,414 etc, very minimal processing, 1 stereo comp, 1 delay/adt. plate reverb then a yamaha rev 7 in the late 80′s. Oh….not to forget…the biggest pair of wall mounted Tannoys you ever saw!. I feared for my life when walking under those. The material we produced was nothing to be proud of, but at a time when most musicians could only dream of such luxuries, we were pretty lucky.
